Samsung is a classic example of a brand not learning from its competition.
Going on the top is relatively easier than holding that position.
1. Nokia made an easy way for Samsung by emptying entry level mobile phone segment. Samsung repeated history by making way for Micromax, Karbon and 100s of more players.
2. Nokia a mass product concentrated too much on niche like an iPhone. Impossible task for a mass player to sell mass product and still attract premium at high end. No brand has been able to achieve that. Look at Maruti Suzuki. Anything above 6L does not sell. Samsung repeated the same by focusing on high end phones without bringing in any real innovation. Also failed to understand the maturity of the market/product life cycle. A facelift in cars work and not in mobile phone category. Few things here and there are not enough to attract customers.
3. Having lost entry and premium, Samsung still holds a very decent ground in 12-22k segment but it bound to deplete soon. As people are experiencing other mobile brands like Micromax etc their confidence in experiment with their mid segment is also increasing. Unlike Samsung who is currently playing on BRAND value and demanding premium. Other player are playing on CUSTOMER value. Loads of specs at affordable cost and mind you with decent quality.
Moreover, player like Motorola with Moto G, Xiaomi mi3 have become leaders in ecom sales.
Customer verdict on recent launches on Flipkart, Snapdeal etc:
End of Samsung Mobile Era for sure and may rise of another brand - Micromax etc.
Even Nokia is working on affordable value driven windows phone. Sales are picking up. Lets see how it shapes up in near future.
