An aspiring novice blogger asked me about the best platform for blogging. So I did some research for him & then thought to put that research online here for my readers as well. Choice of blogging platform basically depends on the need and scalability one wants to achieve. Let us together compare Wordpress and blogger platform below.
Wordpress vs Blogger – a Comparison
1. Wordpress offers both free hosted blog on www.wordpress.com with limited features together with download blogging software that can be hosted independently. The same can be downloaded from www.wordpress.org. People (Pro bloggers) who wish to expand in terms of size of data and customization would typically use this software. This software can be hosted on your own servers.
2. Template customization – Both Wordpress and blogger offer varied themes. But editing the style sheet and design is allowed only for paid Wordpress users. Not all users are technically sound to do this. Blogger however has introduced fresh themes that are customizable to a large extent like width; column, layout etc can even be managed by a novice blogger.

11. Mobile compatibility – Blogger has come up with a mobile version of blogger theme for smartphones. Not all Wordpress themes support this feature, plus you have to install specific plugins for the same.
12. Monetization – Getting an AdSense account approval done becomes easier if you are on Google owned Blogger platform.
13. E commerce – Blogger as a policy does not allow any commercial trade. Wordpress.org as SAAS allows e-commerce.
14. Ban – Google is very strict in banning flagged blogs as spam. You may lose all your post and account will never open. Wordpress.org allows you to host the posts on your server. So banning is no issue.

Thanks for this :) very informative. I'm currently on blogspot, and as an amateur blogger I find it just fine. But people keep telling me wordpress is better. Still on the fence however...
ReplyDeleteAs a wordpress expert I know that there no tool for blogging more powerful than wordpress. Actually wp is the king tool for blogging. But again blogger is a good place to start.
