All ecom players in India are up with all sorts of sales and promos.
Flipkart, eBay, Amazon, Snapdeal, Jabong, Myntra etc. Have their versions of offers.
But are they genuine and is the shopping experience during these promos really pleasing? I guess NO.
My experience is as follows:
1. MRPs are inflated to show bigger discounts.
2. Their website crashes with high volume of traffic, due to full page newspaper and TVCs.
3. Prominent deals goes out of stock in a flash.
4. Massive delay in delivery. Also leads to huge cancellations.
5. Product quality issues.
6. No support from customer service. Busy telephone lines and social handles.
Anyways, from deals perspective customers might be gaining something but from business perspective it is just a customer acquisition strategy at huge losses. The insight is that all of the above ecom players actually sell below cost to lure customers and build a shopping base for future. For now it is just an evaluation game.
