By now you know that I usually write a blog only when people ask me something where I have to research, which then translates to posts.
Other day one of my close friend asked me a million dollar question that can blogs generate uninterrupted earning with minimum effort?
Well! there are no simple answers to complex questions and especially this one. Anyways, the answer is "YES" and build up is simple (If you ready to sweat for initial 6 months).
I recollect an old saying here "It is better said than done" :). The truth is that I have not experiment with the proposition that I am going to suggest today. (Actually, I am in the process of creating something very interesting for myself and will unveil in some time. Keep following my blog for the announcement.)
But, I have seen many ordinary blogger minting money using this simple technique.
So, what does it take to open flood gates of continuous revenue through blogging? Well if you Google, you will find 1000 people sharing advises in the form of eBooks or research papers. Mind it! these are not free and would cost you anything between $1 to $19. Now, imagine if you were to write a similar research paper of your interest and sell it to just 10 people per day @ $10 each. The revenue that you earn per month by simply sitting at home is $3000, though the potential is unlimited.
By now, you must have guessed, where I am heading.
Let's build a real money making blog by following some OBVIOUS steps:
Step 1: Find an area of interest that you would love write or talk about. The idea is to get into an effortless mode of writing. Though it is good to research and consolidate everything in your blog or article but people would appreciate you more if you can add your own perspective to the whole scenario. Please note that whatever topics that you choose to write should expandable and should not be restricted to a post or two.
Just in case you are unable to find that one area of interest on which you can write effortlessly, then you have to be ready to sweat a bit. Use free online tools to research on most loved topics by web stalkers/bloggers. One such free keyword research tool is Google Adwords keyword tool. Google it and you would find it that the top slot.
Step 2: Now when you have shortlisted the topic, then next step is to give your content a structure. It is very simple. Pick up any book and see how the index table is laid out. Actually, it simply depicts learning progression. With each chapter, the content becomes more advance and specific. You have to do a simple job. Treat you readers as students of your favorite subject and plan their classes in the form of blog posts.
Let me give you a simple example. If your blog is about "How to blog and make is famous?", then you post would include topics like what is a blog? what is good platform for blogging? how to chose a blogging platform, Why blog, interesting topics to blog, case studies on successful blogging, how to market your blog, tip & tricks around blogging, How to monetize a blog, etc etc.
Step 3: Show perseverance while building a strong blog and spend 1-2 hours a day blogging for 6 months. Regular updates build good search engine ranking for dynamic traffic and also builds your credibility.
10% of the job is done by following the above 3 steps. Yes, you read it right 10%. Coming steps can be considered as the heart of a successful blog. It is at this step that people lose patience and give away writing due to lack traffic or conversations. So pay attention.
Step 4: The most critical step is to market your blog. Don't worry. You don't have to spend money to market something. You can do that through various online mediums using your exiting social links. The way you put a wall post every morning on Facebook. Do, share your blog post with friends. Do not hesitate to do this bit of self promotion. Always remember, building the first 1000 fans for your blog is the toughest job, other would simply follow. Other ways of marketing:
A. Following SEO guideline and building search friendly HTML tags.
B. Directory submission and PR article releases.
C. You may chose to get some paid traffic through Google adwords
D. Build a fan page on Facebook where you can interact with your fans. If you are short of time, you can also link your blog to Facebook and Twitter and auto post stuff there. You can do it using Dlvr.it (google it to know more).
E. Sound learned by posting comments on other related blogs.
All of above will ensure a smooth flow of traffic to your blog post 6 months and I am assuming you have posted about 1000 posts. Now, is the time to think about monetizing the your blog.
Step 5: Time to relax a bit and think about leveraging the intellectual property that you have created over the last few months. Never show a hurry to monetize a blog else the disappointment will be very high. Half baked things never tastes good. :(
Here is what you can possibly do:
1. As a followup to Step 2,convert your structured blog into a eBook. Google the same and you would find enough website offering this service for a nominal cost. Fix a nominal price and to begin with give 25-50% discount to people. Trust me, by now your blog has enough credibility for people to trust your understanding on the subject and invest some money to learn more. Use affiliate marketing to sell this eBook like on Amazon, ebay etc. Set sales targets for yourself strategies/invest in marketing accordingly. Customer is the king, hence don't forget to take feedbacks from them for the next edition. Of course the next edition would be at a premium. The stage is set, just go for the kill and mine Gold.
2. Apply for Google Adsense account. Since you have build decent attraction with good content, you can expect instant approvals from Google. This will ensure regular stream of income irrespective of sales.
3. Guest blogging is another area you should step in immediately and earn money per post that you create for others.
4. Lectures - If you are good speak and presenter. just convert some parts of your eBooks into a nice presentation, add some group task to it and then tie up with some even management company (on revenue sharing basis) to arrange paid sessions for you. Many corporate and like minded people would like to hear your expert opinion. Dont worry, if the initial set of workshops are very enlightening. With experience, you would know the kind of stuff to be added to your presentation and make very interesting and engaging for the listeners. You may later chose to conduct webinar online and keep 100% of the revenues with you.
The above has potential to give you revenues that is atleast 10 times your current salary by just following your passion and be an entrepreneur yourself.
